Hi Girls....so this is what i have come up with. I will print you both a copy and bring it this afternoon and you can let me know what you think. All still a draft and we can change anything. see you later xo
Welcome and introductionOverview our overall project and give some background to what our lessons will be covering. Our unit of work is focusing on weather and though our lessons students will be learning about seasons, the climate in Perth, and will be contacting students in New York through the epal site to compare and contrast weather conditions. The unit will culminate in students planning a holiday to visit their penpal. Throughout all of the lesson students will be making their own in a weather journal, where they will be drawing pictures of the weather outside, suitable clothes for the weather, and recording temperatures. Today we are going to be teaching you components of our third lesson, however, as we will discuss later, we are not able to use the epal system as students, so we will instead show you how the site works.
For the purpose of the lesson today is----------DATE--------- and the weather is as is in reality.
Lesson: come and sit down on the mat. So, if you could all now take yourself back to Year One, and come down and sit down on the mat after coming in from lunch. MIMIO- SEASONS AND NAMES READY Sign in So, how was lunch everyone? Can you see these picture? What do you think they represent? (The seasons). And what is a season? (the four main weather parts of the year- Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring) Before we start our weather lesson today could you all help us, by find your name and dragging it onto your favourite season. Sing weather song Ok everyone, now we are going to sing our weather song. Do you all remember the words? If not, just try to follow on

MIMIO SLIDE ??? (just ideas) with all the days of the week in one colour- get a child to slide the right day into place. With the 12 months in another colour- slide in place With the 4 seasons in another colour- get a child to slide it in place With describing words in another colour, and again slide
revise seaons and climate of Perth. Now let’s have a little think back to our previus lessons
Who can remind me what weather is? (the day to day temperatures and conditions??)
Who can remind me what the four seasons are? (SSWA)
And when do we have our seasons in Australia?
Who can remind me what is the special word is for our climate in Perth? (mediteranean)
Aims for class today- our weather in Perth is different to weather in other countries.1) think about how weather is different around the world.2) write to our penpals using epal and describe to them the weather in Perth and the clothes that we wear inside and outside. 3) Drawing a picture of today’s weather in our weather journal MIMIO slidewith the aims for the lesson today. Today we are going to be thinking about how our weather in Perth is different to weather in other parts of the world. We are going to be writing to our penpals in New York, who you have been writing to and working with all year, and tell them about the weather in Perth. If you finish your email before the time is up you can draw in your weather journal picture for the day and fill out the temperatures
Has anyone been on a holiday to somewhere where the weather was different?
We are now going to have a look at ------- lizard--------- and the weather she has seen on her holidays. I will need helpers so I hope you are sitting up with your straightest backs so I can choose you. Learning federation- looking at the holday that......lizard......went on. Either we already have the learning federation open and signed in, or there is a link on a Mimio slide to it (but we still have to be signed in!)Talk about how we are going to write our emails- lets compose one together Ok everyone. Now we are going to write some emails to our penpals in New York. Today, I want you to think about the weather in Perth and particularly focus on telling them about what you have been learning. We are going to start writing the email together now, and then you can go back to your computers and you are going to write your emails. So…..
how does an email start?
what things should we tell our buddy about weather?
How do we finish an email?
We will write what they come up with as a guide.
Have a word document already open, and start writing the email. EXAMPLE: Dear Penpal (write their name) I hope that you are well. I live in Perth. In is Summer. It is hot. We have to wear sunscreen…..
Love Miss Clarke
(then they can go back and sit down in seats and we will show them how to use epal.)Alright everyone. You can just go back to your seats now, and we will show you the epals site. Open epal site. I will be signed in. Show them the features:
Sign up and get 30 emails for your class (can get more)
Show them the uses and some of the projects that other classes are doing.
Explain about how due to safety you cannot use it unless you are a teacher with an actual class J
While the children are writing their emails we would be using a countdown timer Countdown timer. Students who finish early would go and get their weather journals and can draw a picture of the weather today.
When the countdown timer gets to zero children would come back to the mat, and we would revise the aims for the lesson. Did they think about how weather is different around the world? Did they all get to write a letter to their pen pals telling them about the weather in Perth?? Do they want to sing the weather song again? Thank you very much everyone, that is the end of our presentation of our lesson, and now we would love your feedback on our lesson. Could you all please go back to your seats at your desks and sign into Wikispaces and the ndearlychildhood page that Jean set up last week. It should be listed under your Favourite Wikis on your homepage. Could you then find the page on the right hand side called THE WEATHER, and type 2 constuctive words to help us reflect on our presentation. Don’t worry if someone else writes the same thing, but please don’t just all copy each other J We need this page open so that we can show them. We then need to open Wordle and make a wordle out of the words (copy and paste them in). Now we are going to reflect on them- Eg. So I see a lot of you wrote………… can someone please explain why? Someone wrote------------------ anyone care to comment? How do you think we could improve? Do you think ICT overpowered our lesson? Would you do anything differently?
Some thoughts for the bigger project-
Have a weather station set up outside for the students to measure the temperature and rainfall etc. Introduce this in the first class.
